Syensqo has won the Safety category at the 2024 North American SPE Innovation Awards. The winning innovation is an advanced busbar cable support bracket designed for General Motors' flagship electric vehicle, the 2025 Cadillac CELESTIQ, and is recognized for its contribution to electric vehicle safety.
The black part is the busbar cable bracket upper clip made of Ryton® R-4-220 BL
The award was presented at the 53rd Annual Automotive Innovation Awards ceremony held in Detroit, Michigan on November 13, 2024. The event has been the oldest and largest recognition event in the automotive and plastics industries since its establishment in 1970.
The bracket is injection molded by Grand Traverse Plastics using high-performance V0-grade PPS and PBT materials to effectively prevent thermal runaway and high-voltage arcing by limiting the displacement of the wiring harness. The upper clip is made of Syensqo's Ryton® R-4-220 BL PPS material, providing a stable connection for the busbar, meeting strict fixing requirements while improving assembly efficiency.
Compared with traditional metal brackets, this design excels in durability and thermal stability, ensuring that busbars weighing up to 15 kg always maintain insulation performance. The use of special plastic materials also enables a reliable and predictable grounding path, thereby improving overall safety.
The innovative snap-on design provides an axial retention force of more than 240N in each position with only one fastener, which reduces more than 10 fasteners per subsystem. Installation requires only 45N of insertion force, making the assembly process ergonomic and significantly reducing operator fatigue. This efficiency not only increases production speed, but also reduces scrap costs by up to 99%, reflecting important progress in sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
"We are very proud to work with General Motors to celebrate this significant achievement. Our collaboration and use of advanced Ryton® PPS materials has set new standards for safety and productivity in the electric vehicle industry. This recognition highlights our commitment to innovative solutions that reduce critical risks and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles," said Laura Hirschhorn, Executive Key Account Manager at Syensqo.
The Cadillac CELESTIQ, which uses this award-winning technology, has begun production in December 2023 and is being sold worldwide, continuing to advance electric vehicle technology.
