The expansion project of Evonik's Specialty Amines Plant was officially started in Nanjing on November 8. This expansion project is a milestone and demonstrates Evonik's determination to deepen the polyurethane and epoxy curing agent markets. China is crucial to Evonik's global business, and the expansion of existing production bases will help strengthen Evonik's business development in the Chinese market.

The investment in this expansion project is tens of millions of euros, which will help Evonik obtain cost-effective raw materials and enhance its amine product portfolio. By increasing production capacity in China, Evonik will enhance its competitiveness, improve market efficiency, optimize its production network, and help future market development. This expansion is also in line with Evonik's global amine product strategic goals and will further promote differentiated product supply.
Dr. Claudine Mollenkopf, head of Evonik's Specialty Additives business unit, said: "Asia is a strategic focus for our business expansion. We are confident in the future potential of the region, and the expansion of the new specialty amines plant confirms this. This investment project will not only consolidate our position in the polyurethane and epoxy markets, but also demonstrate our determination for sustainable growth and innovation."
Thermoplastic Polyimide
Evonik's Nanjing base uses green electricity to produce amine-based additives, which are essential for industries such as construction, automobiles, and homes. These additives play an important role as catalysts in polyurethane foaming reactions. Innovative catalysts can also reduce odor and VOC emissions. In November 2023, Evonik signed a letter of intent with the Nanjing Municipal Government for the expansion of the base, and the expansion project is expected to be completed in 2026.
"China is a market full of vitality and potential, and polyurethane products have broad application prospects in areas such as construction, automobiles and homes," said Xia Fuliang, President of Evonik Greater China. "By expanding our production capacity for specialty amines, we can respond more flexibly to market demand and provide customers with more competitive and sustainable solutions. We will continue to firmly commit to China's sustainable development goals and work with local partners to promote the green and high-quality development of the industry."
