SABIC, a global diversified chemical company, recently announced the official opening of its US$170 million (S$220 million) ULTEM PEI resin production plant in Singapore. The new plant is SABIC's first advanced specialty chemical manufacturing plant in the region to produce high-performance thermoplastic ULTEM PEI resins.
This strategic move is designed to support SABIC's goal of increasing global ULTEM specialty resin production capacity by more than 50% to actively respond to the growing demand for high-tech and manufacturing industries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan and China.
The new plant was jointly unveiled by Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), Mr. Khalid Hashim Al Dabagh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SABIC, Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Fajji, CEO of SABIC, and Mr. Omar Al-Harthi, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Singapore.
Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the new plant in Singapore reinforces SABIC’s commitment to localizing the supply of high-performance materials to meet complex and demanding supply chain needs.
“The opening of SABIC’s new plant underscores Singapore’s role as a gateway to Asia and a leading hub for the chemical industry,” said Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), Singapore.

Singapore Economic Development Mr. Lim Wei-jen, Deputy Director General of the Bureau, said: “The opening of SABIC’s new ULTEM plant in Singapore not only demonstrates its confidence in Singapore as a regional hub, but also demonstrates its willingness to rely on Singapore to meet the growing demand for high-performance specialty chemicals in the Asian market.
We expect the advanced production capabilities of the new plant to drive the development of our chemical industry and meet customer needs in growth areas such as automotive and electronics.
